School Record Correction

Guidance on correcting errors in school records, mark sheets, transfer certificates and other educational documents through the appropriate school and government authorities.

About This Guidance

Errors in school records — including name spellings, date of birth, parent names, caste category or other details — can create serious difficulties for students when applying for scholarships, government schemes, higher education admissions or employment. Cute Stars Foundation provides awareness and guidance to help families understand the correct procedure for getting such errors rectified.

We do not process corrections on behalf of families. Our role is to inform and guide families so they can approach the correct authority with the right documents and follow the proper procedure.

Common Errors in School Records

Incorrect spelling of the student's name

Wrong date of birth recorded in school registers or mark sheets

Incorrect spelling or name of parent or guardian

Wrong caste, religion or community category

Incorrect gender recorded in school records

Errors in transfer certificates or school leaving certificates

General Procedure for Correction

Procedures may vary by school, board and state. Always verify the current process with the relevant authority.

1

Approach the School

The first step is to approach the headmaster or principal of the school where the record was created. Submit a written application requesting the correction along with supporting documents.

2

Submit Supporting Documents

Provide documents that prove the correct information — such as a birth certificate, Aadhaar card, or affidavit. The school will specify what documents are required.

3

School Board Correction (if required)

For corrections in board examination records (SSC, HSC), the school must forward the application to the relevant board — Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) or CBSE.

4

Affidavit (if required)

Some corrections require a notarised affidavit from the parent or guardian declaring the correct information. This must be obtained from a notary or magistrate.

5

Follow Up

Follow up with the school or board office regularly. Keep copies of all applications and acknowledgements received.
